Lighting notes (nathan)

We used specific types of lighting when filming. Because our film is mainly narrative based, we decided to use naturalistic lighting to give the music video a more natural look. When we used clips from our band, performance shots, we used the lighting from the recording studio because we were inside and therefore the performance shots show no narrative therefore naturalistic light is not needed to help portray the narrative. We used naturalistic lighting in our narrative shots to provide generic conventions of music videos from our genre. We have gone for a more narrative based music video in which is non-stereotypical of the genre we have chosen.

We used bright lighting in our recording study to focus in on the band members and the instruments to make our performance shots as good as possible to convey the lyrics to the audience. Adding to this, we have tried to convey emotion and thought throughout our shots therefore carefully choosing where our light goes throughout our music video.

Equipment information (nathan)

We have used various equipment in our music video to perform the specific shots needed to portray our narrative throughout the clip. These pieces of equipment were;

We decided to use the apple iPhone 6s to film our music video because our phone had a higher quality camera than those provided. Therefore we decided this was a better choice as we could film in higher quality. We originally decided to film in 4K, however this took up a lot of storage on our phones causing us to not be able to film a lot. There we decided to film in 1080p 60fps. This didn't take up a lot of storage as it was less quality however, still a very good quality that is very clear when uploaded onto iMovie.

We used this phone tripod to help us stabilise low shots and long shots so that it wouldn't be wobbling when we uploaded it. iMovie however, has a stabilising tool however, we were extra cautious when coming to film our music video so we decided to use this piece of equipment in order to make sure we can film in the best quality possible.

This was an unusual piece of equipment as it is used for a completely different thing to what we used it for. We used this piece of equipment to help us get the shots of the car wheel moving as it would be dangerous to hang out of the car without no one to support us. There we improvised with this piece of equipment to help us film our music video the way we wanted it too.

The car was basically to make sure we had a efficient way of getting from location to location is a certain time. We also used this in our film as a large piece of equipment to help make the narrative run smoothly throughout the music video.

Lip Syncing Practice (nathan)

Our lip syncing practice was our initial take on a short music video in which we filmed. We had to try and lip sync the song with our lips in order for the film to look professional and good when watching it back. We did this to help us when coming to make our own music video as lip syncing is very hard. We, as a group, didn't find this lip syncing very hard however, we didn't have any narrative shots within the music video so that we didn't have to move the song about to fit it to the correct part of the video. We chose to do She said by Plan B as we knew the song well therefore it would be easier to film it and lip sync it as we know the song well.

This helped us understand how lip syncing works and the benefits of it. Also this is a key feature of music videos therefore we now know what to do when we do our own music video.
