This is our audience questionnaire in which helped us decide what our audience like and prefer. We have done this to find out the views of our audience and what they like/prefer to make our music video most suitable to them.
Class: Cold Play have very upbeat music and seem to aim at
audiences from ages 15-25. This is because their songs are upbeat and have very
catchy lyrics and tunes within their songs attracting a younger audience.
Demographic is Teenagers and young adults, E – D.
Race: The majority of Cold Play’s audience are of a white
race. This is because Cold Play are an English band and they are all white
meaning that the majority of their audience who are attracted to them are
white. However, some ethnic minorities may like Cold Play’s music.
Interests: Based on the music that Cold Play produce, I
think that their main interest is musical instruments. I think this because in
their music videos, they have a lot of performance shots of them with musical
instruments on them. This almost looks like they are showing the audience their
interest and almost sharing it with them therefore I think their main interest
is musical instruments when making music videos.
Attitudes: I would expect that the people who listen to
Coldplay would have a specific attitude towards music. I think that their
audience has to have a good attitude towards pop rock music in order to like it
and understand the music they produce.
Gender: Coldplay’s music is not gender specific and
therefore has a broad target audience. I think that pop rock attracts
heterosexual males more than females as there is a rock element in it. However,
this does not mean that it will not attract females and males both homosexual
and heterosexual as different songs have different narratives I which may
appeal to different genders.
Age: Coldplay’s songs are usually aimed at young adults or
teenagers within 14 – 25 age range. However, this does not mean that their
songs aren’t listened to by other ages and there is no discrimination against
others listening to it. Therefore, the general age range is around my own
therefore this helps give me ideas on what band to aim for.
Uses & Gratifications: the target audience of Coldplay’s
music would use representations of them for information and instruments and
music. They may wish to be like them and use the same instruments as them to
boost their own personal image in music. They may talk about Coldplay or
socialise by listening, singing or dancing to their songs.
Based on this Audience brief, our music video will try and have similarities to this audience profile so that we can attract the same audience as our chosen artists/band.

Coldplay are a British rock band formed in 1996 by lead vocalist and pianist Chris Martin and lead guitarist Jonny Buckland at University College London. After they formed under the name Pectoralz, Guy Berryman joined the group as a bassist and they changed their name to Starfish. Will Champion joined as a drummer and backing vocalist, completing the performing line-up. Creative director Phil Harvey is often referred to as the official fifth member of the band. The band renamed themselves Coldplay in 1998, before releasing three EPs: Safety in 1998, Brothers & Sisters as a single in 1999, and The Blue Room in the same year. The Blue Room was their first release on a major label, after signing to Parlophone.
They achieved worldwide fame with the release of the single Yellow in 2000. This was followed by their debut album Parachutes released the same year, which was nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band's second album, A Rush of Blood to the Head in 2002, was released to critical acclaim and won multiple awards, including NME's Album of the Year. Their next release,X&Y, the best-selling album worldwide in 2005, was met with mostly positive reviews upon its release, though some critics felt that it was inferior to its predecessor. From then onwards, Coldplay continued to win Grammy Awards for their songs and continue to produce popular songs to date.
